There are many abandoned children and orphans who later became great citizens and very useful in our days. The abandoned children and orphans have great potentials if they can be helped. They are also created with potentials of success. Below are the practical examples of the orphans and abandoned children who later became great citizens and whose potentials were developed to the benefits of the common man. The need of the hour is on how to help the orphans and the abandoned children to become great, useful and to achieving what they were originally created to become.
Below are some of the examples of the orphans and abandoned children who later became great citizens and through whose efforts others were blessed.
1. BECAME A MIGHTY PREACHER :
One of the greatest preachers ever produced in Nigeria was an abandoned child who was picked up by a good Nigerian, where he was dumped. This child was rescued, trained and fed, who later repented as he grew and became one of the greatest gospel ministers in Nigeria in his days, though, no more alive, but his sermons, write ups, ministries, fruits and the unceasing evidences of his greatness are still speaking today.
2. AN ABANDONED CHILD LATER BECAME A MEDICAL DOCTOR :
One of the greatest and most successful hospitals in Aba was owned by abandoned child who was not accepted but rejected, who also was picked up by an old woman who later cared for him and fed him till the boy was able to finish his elementary six and study medicine. This rejected and abandoned child after his graduation, as a medical student, later established a wonderful hospital that is today patronized by the majority of the afflicted.
3. AN ABANDONED CHILD BECAME THE MOTHER OF ALL GREAT:
A baby girl abandoned by her parents for religious purposes was pick up by the Methodist Missionaries who was also trained by the missionaries in middle 20s (precisely 1925) who later married to a Methodist preacher who through such marriage had six children. Among these children are the following great men. i. The first child (male) medical doctor. ii. The second child (male) medical doctor. iii. The third child (female) principal of a secondary school. iv. The fourth child (female) barrister. v. The fifth child (male) engineer. vi. The sixth child (male) administrator in the government. Every child has potentials he was born with but the issue is who will develop the hidden giants.
4. ABANDONED CHILD LATER BECAME THE BEST STUDENT:
It was with the greatest shock, though with great joy to discover that one of the secondary school competitions held in the state recently was headed by an abandoned child who was described as the best students in English, in Mathematics, in Religious studies and the best student in English literature. This child was described as the best student in the state. Only few people knew that the boy was an adopted child, who perhaps should have been useless if the couple had denied such responsibility of caring and training the boy.
5. AN ABANDONED CHILD LATER BECAME MANAGER:
One of the most reputable companies in River state was headed by an abandoned child. An abandoned child at his age of two, who was picked up by Christian organization and was cared for, trained and helped, who was very brilliant and graduated from the university as an engineer (Bsc.) and was later employed by the company who through gradual process in that company became the company’s manager. There are greatness, potentials and success foundation in the hearts, souls and lives of the orphans and the abandoned children, which need development and encouragement for proper actualization.
6. REJECTED CHILD BECAME AN ENGINEER:
One of the greatest automobile engineer we ever knew was a man who cannot describe his parents, nor his town, neither his state of origin, but a man who was rejected by a woman who brought him into this world but later rejected him and threw him into a basket and dropped him along the road where he was picked up by a cyclist who took him to the traditional ruler, from where the child was handed over to the church and her missionaries, from where he was cared for as he was handed over to the missionaries at the first one month of his birth. This child was called the church son, who was trained and later graduated as an engineer. He has no village of identification but decided to have his permanent residence in Rivers State, from where he visits any area he likes. Abandoned children and orphans can be more useful if they can be trained and be helped to be useful.
7. THE SON OF A MAD MAN BECAME A GREAT CONTRACTOR :
A notable mad man in our zone had four children with his wife before the madness sprang up. His children were at the ages 2, 4, 6 and 8 before he became mad or insane, he was naked and jumped into the bush and market as a result of such madness. His wife as a result of his madness left him and remarried, while their children were left untrained and uncared for. These children were abandoned and treated as orphans as there were nobody to care for them. Through one way or the other, these children were developed and trained that one of them became a civil engineer and owns one of the biggest construction companies in the zone which has taken charge of many roads constructions in the state and across the state.
8. ORPHAN BECAME ONE OF THE BEST FOOTBALLER:
One of the best footballers in the country was an orphan that was brought up by a relation. The orphan was helpless and suffered many hard conditions without people knowing that there were untapped potentials in him which can lift up his name before the world. He became a footballer from secondary school and grew with that gift which gave honour to him and to others around him. The secret behind this great footballer was unveiled through adequate caring of this great orphan.
9. AN ORPHAN BECAME A GREAT CITIZEN:
One of the senior citizens in this country who grew to the prominent position in the government was a helpless orphan who was trained and cared by his relations. He lost his parents at the age of ten and suffered all afflictions of the orphans until he was taken to a relation who fed, cared, trained and sustained him. Through great sufferings as an orphan, he grew and studied to extent of becoming a graduate from a reputable university through which he was promoted in the government and became great citizen and prominent government official.
10. AN ORPHAN LATER BECAME A TRADITONAL RULER:
One of the most influential traditional rulers in Imo State was an orphan. He lost his parents when he was fourteen years and started suffering as an orphan. He was picked up by some good citizens through whose influence and help, he was able to acquire his GCE and NCE who later won the ticked of his people to become their king. Today, he is a great traditional ruler and influential king in the society. If this man at his early life was not picked up by some good citizens, the whole potentials in this man would have been a great waste and meaningless to the world.
11. AN ORPHAN BECAME A MILITARY OFFICER:
One of the higher ranking officers during the military regime in Nigeria (1984 – 1999) was an orphan who was not even cared for by his relation, but through the intervention of God he was taken to school and from where he joined the Navy and was trained in various fields of the military. He was very brilliant and received rapid promotions to the level of VA and stood as one of the spokesmen of military then. Though, retired, but his voice, good works, influence and exemplary lives are still a landmark till date. The potential, fruits, efforts and the success of this great Nigerian would have been in vain and a great waste, if he was not taken to school by the godly people who helped him and cared for him at his early age as an orphan.
12. AN ORPHAN LATER BECAME A UNIVERSITY PROFESSOR:
One of the greatest professors we know from the faculty of humanities was an orphan at his age of twelve (12). This academic guru was an orphan at his age of twelve who suffered hunger, pains, loneliness, fear, sorrows and all forms of hardship as a result of such condition. He trained himself and struggled harder to survive and to become what he was born to become. His wisdom, knowledge and inputs are today shared among the students and all academic world. If this orphan had been allowed to perish, his knowledge, input in the society, academic contributions and all his value and present credits would have been in vain and a great waste in the world.
13. WHY WE DID NOT WRITE IN DETAIL :
We did not write in detail about the people whose examples were cited above because those orphans whose examples and testimonies are shown above who became great at last were not privately consulted before this writing, that’s why their names, addresses, phone numbers, states of origin and their communities were not indicated mentioned, or written as to know whom they are and to appreciate them. These testimonies are depended on the truth and the visible evidences before all who know them.
14. WHY THESE TESTIMONIES:
These testimonies of the orphans and abandoned children who later became great were written to show that the orphans also have the potentials to be great leaders, successful managers, reasonable officers and great politicians if they can be helped, cared for and be directed. This is written to unveil that the death of the parents of the orphans did not cancel what God planted in them if good people can care and can help the orphans to survive.
15. THE NEED TO HELP THE ORPHANS AND ABANDONED CHILDREN:
Every person created by God is born to live including the orphans and the abandoned or rejected children. It was only JESUS that was born to die for others. Based on this Biblical truth, the orphans, the poor and the abandoned children are born to become somebody and to achieve one particular program or the other under the sun. To achieve these numerous potentials in such children, the elite, the rich, the well fed, the well clothed, the well positioned and the well privileged people should seek possible ways to help, care and to cater for the orphans and abandoned children in our society.
MY PERSONAL AND PAINFUL EXPERIENCES AS AN ORPHAN
To become an orphan is a painful and sorrowful experience that demands comfort, encouragement, support and caring. It is not an easy experience. My father had two wives, my mother was the senior (first) wife with seven children, while I was the third child, and the other wife had five children, making all my father’s children to be twelve (12) in number. My mother died when I was nine years while the second wife of my father died a year later. My father died when I was twelve (12) years which was three years after the death of my mother, and while I was in elementary six. The death in our family left the twelve children without parents. None of these children was an adult except my two elder ones who were at their 19th and 15th birth days (19 and 15) years respectively. I was the third at 12, while the remaining nine children were between 2 and 11 years of age respectively. Our elder sister who was nineteen years or little above that got married to a man from the same community and picked up our younger sister of three years to be with her, my elder brother who was fifteen years or little above that travelled to Benin city by the help of a relation, the remaining nine children were shared among our relations to care for them except me and my immediate younger brother who was ten years then. I and my younger brother were the two sons that occupied protected and lived in our parents houses. Among the seven children shared to our relations to care for, only two returned alive, while five of them died there. The whole twelve children of my father, only seven are still alive today, while five of them died as infant orphans where they were scattered among our relations to care for them or to help them survive. The only two children in our father’s house were myself and my immediate younger brother who is less than three hardship, sleepless nights, tears, frequent weeping, fears, uncomfortable experiences, uneasiness, isolations and body pains.
OUR FOODS AND MEAT
We suffered great everyday. Our foods were cassava, corn and vegetables. Before we ate we must go to bush to pick palm fruits, snails, rats, grasshoppers, crickets and other vegetables gathered from the bush. We often left the house every day between 5am and 6am to the bush in search of rats, snails, grasshoppers, crickets, cassava, corn or to search for where to get mature and ripped palm fruits or to pick palm kernels, bush vegetables or other benefits from the farm for our sustenance and for our feeding. At time, there may not be any food for me and for my younger brother for two days unless we went to bush to search for what to eat and for how to survive. We must go to bush to search for foods, stream to catch fishes bush to get snails, rats, caterpillars or mushrooms for our foods before we could eat each day. Remember, I was 12 and my younger brother was 10 years by then. The sufferings of the orphans are too much, thus, I personally advocate daily for their help and for their caring.
HOW WE SCHOOLED
Through such sufferings, I put myself in the secondary school and my younger brother in elementary school. We paid our school fees through the palm fruits which we gathered from the bush and sold to an oil mill near our village. We mapped out every Tuesday to sell our palm fruits in oil mill, while every Saturday was mapped out together and to pick the ripped palm fruits from the bush. We were sustained in the schools through the sales we made from the palm fruits which were sold every Tuesday to an oil mill near our town. We had sleepless nights and cry always especially when we remembered our parents and how we were suffering and daily tortured by hunger. There were nights we only devoted to weeping due to loneliness and the vacuum created by the deaths of our parents. The absence of our parents affected our lives and created bent feelings in our reasoning. When this suffering became so much, I stopped schooling and decided to be training my younger brother who was in primary school by then. The condition became unbearable that I was searching for where to go as a house boy, though I had earliest ambition and vision to be a lecturer, but condition seemed to have shifted this my infant vision. We were frustrated by the death of our parents and cried almost every night, especially when our house would be leaking and when we remembered our late parents, who should have been our helper in what we were suffering, but we trusted in God by then.
MY TRIP TO PORTHARCOURT
Port-Harcourt was my first township to visit and to live in, because all my infant days were in a rural area of my village. One day, as I passed near a house of a couple who called me and sat me down to advise me and his advice was for me to search for an urban town where I should go in order to survive the hardship that engulfed me and my younger brother agreed with his advice and he invited a man from Owerri zone who was as at then living in Port Harcourt, who also discussed with my uncles to take me to Port Harcourt as his servant who would sell articles for him his store at mile one market Diobu Port Harcourt, but unfortunately the man was not a trader and had no store, neither any business in that market. He rather bought a grinding machine for me to be grinding pepper and melon for women in the market and for others who want to cook soup. My monthly salary by then was two naira (N2.00). It was pepper grinding and melon grinding that I was engulfed to do that was what I worked for two and half years at the monthly salary of only two naira (N2.00). when I saw this business unhelpful to my future, I resigned and got another job in a hotel at harbor road Port-Harcourt and that work was plate and toilet washing in a hotel with a monthly salary of sixteen naira (N16.00), this is where I served until I was promoted to a canteen steward to the bar manager, from the bar manager to the General manager and from there I planned for my studies and started taken exams through extra moral classes through which I got my WAEC and GCE which gave room for my university training. At the university my vision to be a lecturer was revived, and renewed and increased in my spirit.
MY REPENTANCE
I repented shortly after I got my required papers such as WAEC and GCE. As a result of my new faith, I resigned from hotel business and started new businesses where I was selling electronics and another fancy store where I was selling ladies and men’s wear. I repented while serving as a manager but my new faith did not allow me to continue working in a hotel, thus, I resigned completely. Having established two businesses, I went to university from where I got my bachelor degree (BRA) and later my masters degree (MRA) and after that my doctorate degree (DRE) which warranted my teaching in the university. As at this time I already have four doctoral degrees DRE, DCA, PhD, and DD and have taught in two big universities. The infant vision and my early plan to become a lecturer was realized. Note, not every orphan may have such idea, opportunity and vision to be what I am today. My younger brother who was left alone at home after I left for Port Harcourt, later finished his secondary school through my effort, I trained him till he graduated in his university. Today he is a doctorate degree holder as well PhD and has taught in a reputable university. I repented with brokenness and with tears and have continued to live for God and to serve God with my life, with my money, with health and with all around me in order to please Him. Today, there are many orphans with more potentials, more wisdom and more ability to excel but nobody to help them, to direct them and to bring them up. Let us be our brothers keepers, let us help the orphans survive and excel.
MY CALL INTO THE GOSPEL MINISTRY
God called me into full time gospel ministry to be a pastor and to lead his people. I started with little church which later grew very big and large congregations. I combined my pastoral works with the university teaching until God convinced me and instructed me to leave all university businesses and face gospel ministries alone which I did as they are today.
MY COMPASSION FOR THE ORPHANS AND ABANDONED CHILDREN
My sufferings as an orphan gave me great picture of what orphans are suffering in our society today and through that also God gave me vision on how to help the orphans and the abandoned children. I know, not all abandoned children and orphans shall have the opportunity which I had, some of them need help, courage, advice, aid, support, catering and proper grooming to become what God created them to become. It is fully based on this that Bishop Emmanuel El foundation is born to tackle the issues of the poor orphans, the abandoned children and the issues of the less privileged in our society and in our generation. The orphans and the abandoned children are the great and helpful potentials if they can be helped and be built.

What shall we do with these little or young orphans, abandoned children, motherless babies and the fatherless infants whose futures are unknown? Who knows the womb that carries the king? Who knows the giant that shall deliver the nation? Who knows the baby that shall become the president? Who knows the abandoned child with the potential of becoming the senate president? Who knows how many orphans and abandoned children that were destined to be medical doctors, lawyers, lecturers and engineers that need our help in order to became what they were created to be? Who knows how many undeveloped Bishops, how many undeveloped church builders, how many great evangelists and missionaries among the abandoned children? Helps and supports given to build and to help these abandoned children are great helps given for the national building and for national development.
LET US CATCH THEM YOUNG and develop their potentials for their usefulness in our nation. There are few difficult questions for all of us to answer.
- Who knows how many would be professors, how many would be state governors, how many senators and how many traditional rulers among the orphans and abandoned children in different orphanage and children’s home today? – they can never reach their goals unless you care –
- There are many great preachers to be, many deliverance ministers destined to deliver our nation, many presidents to be and many God ‘s messengers among the orphans and the abandoned children in different children’s homes and orphanages, but they cannot be all they were created to become unless some people help and care. –Are you the one to help –
- Who knows the SAN, decision makers, spokesmen, great politicians, engineers, managers and directors among the innocent babies, orphans and the rejected babies today? – They cannot become what God created them to be unless you help -
