THE UNBEARABLE SUFFERINGS AND GROANINGS OF THE VICTIMS
The sufferings, pains, groaning, sicknesses, tears and all painful conditions that are associated with the lives and experiences of the orphans, the widows, the poor, the abandoned children and the less privileged ones around us are very great. I am very sure that nobody would like to go to market only to search for troubles or seeking for where to purchase poverty, widowhood, sufferings, sicknesses or death. I don’t think that there is anyone that goes to church in order to pray that God give him poverty, deformation, hardship, widowhood, death of parents, rejection by others or painful experiences in his life or family. Nobody desires these around him, why? Because they are painful, negative, fearful, sorrowful and destructive. People do not pray to be beggars to be poor, to be lame, to be widows to be orphans, to be rejected or be abandoned, to be sick, neither do people pray to be sufferings, why? Because everyone hates, fears and rejects such conditions and can never love anyone who offers or awards them with such negative and sorrowful conditions. These painful conditions are not issues to be desired, nor are issues needed in the families, still there people who are already in such conditions which we see as painful and sorrowful conditions. What shall we do to those suffering from what we don’t want to suffer? The truth about all this, is that the sufferings of these people are too severe and maybe termed as unbearable to the victims. These people we are discussing about in this page of the website suffer many things we may not like to suffer in our families among the sufferings are these listed below.
- SEVERE HUNGER
Severe hunger is more dangerous than hunger. These people suffering from severe hunger are living in society but have no food, no hope to get the food, no job to make the money, no helper to get the food, no business to generate the cash in order to buy the food and no friend to give them food. Some of them may remain two, three or four days without food unless they drink water or drink garri with only palm kernel without sugar. This level of poverty and hunger is what most of the orphans, abandoned children, widows, aged childless and poor couples, helpless poor and other less privileged people in our society are suffering. Most of them are dying in silence and have no boldness to beg, while some of our rich men may not even pay attention to their appeal. Such poor and hungry condition has affected their health, their reasoning and their strength, they need our help.
- REJECTION BY OTHERS
Many orphans, widows and the poor are rejected by their kinsmen. They often face abusive words, disgraces, curses and often denied their family rights by the same people. Their sufferings, pains, poverty and sorrowful events increase daily due to unfriendly or hostile treatment they often receive from where they expect comfort and care. Some of these orphans, poor and widows are living under leaking roofs, some under uncompleted houses, while some have nowhere to sleep. Most of them are not mad, but you cannot see any difference between their appearances (dressings) and those of the mad people why? Because of their painful and sorrowful conditions. Some of them cannot eat unless they beg and you can see these people in our motor parks, along the roads and at some prominent junctions in our cities.
You see them sleeping along the road at the open spaces, without roof, without mat, without cooking materials and without houses. Who among us would like to purchase such unhealthy conditions even if they cost only one kobo? The sufferings and sorrows of these our beloved poor, homeless and hopeless brethren should be issues of great concern to every good citizen. Their sufferings, tears and groaning are too much.
- SICKNESS WITHOUT TREATMENT
Another painful issue that these abandoned children, orphan, widows, the poor and the less privileged people suffer today is sickness without treatment or what we may call affliction without attention. They have no money to go to hospitals and nobody cares, why? Because poor man has no brother. Every sincere and love hearted person must cry and weep loudly if you see how these lovely, but poor and rejected people are lying along the roads, sleeping with injury sustained or suffering from other dangerous sicknesses without any treatment and without any mercy or attention of our rich men and women in our society. Shall we allow them to die? Is there no JESUS spirited people in our society today? Most of these men and women, children and the infants are potential citizens whose greatness were not developed. Those people suffer many things we shall not like to come to our ways, let us think twice and let us pray.
- TEARS, PAINS AND SORROWS WITHOUT COMFORT
The less privileged, the deformed, the outcast and the despised poor in our society are full of tears, pains, groaning and sorrows without any comfort and without any advice.
Their poverty, lack crisis and their fear of death and burial grow everyday and every hour. They always think, who will bury me? Where will I be buried? Who will buy the gasket for my burial? Which cloth and what type of cloth will I be buried with? In whose house will I be kept or where will my corpse be kept? Will I be buried immediately or be preserved in the mortuary for some days? Will I be buried by government or by good spirited individuals who may see my corpse lying near the road or be consumed by the vulture? This class of people think more of death than life because their daily experiences reveal that death is closer to them than life, because of no house, no relation, no child, no wife, no husband, no food, no money, no hope, no cloth and no good health. Shall we allow these people to die in this their bad condition.
- LACK OF FOOD, LACK OF HOUSE AND LACK OF CLOTHES
Have you seen an orphan or an abandoned child before? Can you go closer to them to know their experiences? If you know the pains, sufferings and experiences of the orphans and the abandoned children today, you may cry or weep bitterly due to what they are passing through. The orphans and abandoned children are those children who are not living under the care and protection of their parents, those without parents, those whose parents are dead or those children whose parents die while they babies or infants or those children that were abandoned while they were babies or infants. The infants and the abandoned children suffer hunger, nakedness, illness, sorrows, isolations, lack of houses, lack of land of their own, absence of parents, bad health condition, disgraces from neigbours, poor accommodation. The orphans and abandoned children suffer great hunger and cannot eat unless they go to bush to pick palm kernel or eat natural fruits from the bush. Their body at times are full of wounds or injuries their clothes are too dirty because no money to buy soap, no money to buy water container, many of them die in little illness that could be around. They are often disturbed by warms and germs caused by dirty environment, they are at times attacked by cold and flying sicknesses due to bad environment and poor accommodation. Don’t you see some of the abandoned children and orphans begging along our major streets? They have no home, no bed, no mat, no clothes, they are naked, their conditions are pitiful, and sorrowful, they don’t know their parents, and some don’t know where they come from. Some of them may be asking, where am I from, where is my state of origin, which tribe did I come from? Who is my father? Do I really have brothers and sisters, if so who are they? Most of the criminals we have today in our society are the abandoned children, the children of the destitute, the children of the mad women and the children born in the bush and along the roads. To be an orphans and the abandoned child is a tittle nobody would like to take. If these orphans and the abandoned children are not cared for, trained, helped and protected, they shall live to become hostile criminals and destroyers in our society, therefore I see great need to tame these children by fully bringing them to a caring home where they shall be trained, tamed, cared and accommodated in order to bring the best out of them. It is based on this vision that Bishop Emmanuel El foundation is existing.
- UNCERTAINITY OF LIFE, ANXIETY AND FEAR
The less privileged people in our society are full of uncertainty of life, fear, anxiety and self-pity. These are the poor, the aged widows without children, the aged widowers without children, the aged and the weak unmarried men, the aged and weak unmarried women without children, the lepers, the lame and the deformed people, the stranded and the house less people, the poor and the suffering people in our society. Most of these people are rejected by relations, by friends and by their neighbours due to their bad conditions. These people live by begging, by picking palm kernels and by the gifts of good spirited individuals. Most of them die in little and minor sickness that may not take much money to treat but they die due to no medical attention to their sicknesses. Most of them die casual death, untimely death, emergency death and death through short and minor illness. Some of them become mad due to inadequate medical attention, anxiety, fear, high blood pressure and one minor attack or the other. Their daily thoughts and feelings are “who will help me? How can I come out of this case, what shall I eat? Who can help me? Where shall I sleep today, whose unfinished house shall I sleep tomorrow? What shall I do to survive this week? What shall I eat and what shall I drink? Having beaten by rain which other cloth shall I change or replace this soaked or wet one? These and many similar questions are in the hearts of the less privileged people in our society. The tears of the less privileged are many which are as results of poor accommodation, lack of shelter, lack of companion, no friend, no relation, no friend, no neighbor, disappointments, life failures, nakedness, life crisis, fear, discouragement, continuous sorrows, self-pity, hunger, hunger, helplessness, hopelessness, restlessness, anger, anxiety, gossip from others, false accusations from others, evil words from others and different types of afflictions. These people cannot eat unless they begged and cannot put on clothes unless someone gave them neither can they sleep in the house unless in another person’s house, why because they are poor and have none of these as their own. Their lives are full of sorrows, sleepnesses, peacelsseness, restlessness, fears and tears. They cannot eat unless others give them, their foods are palm kernels, raw garri, natural fruits from bush, wasted food from others, natural leaves and other soft foods. - STORIES AND AGONIES OF THE WIDOWS, WIDOWERS, ORPHANS AND THE POOR IN THE RURAL AREAS
The stories, sufferings and agonies of the less privileged people in the villages and rural areas and some communities are very great, very painful, very sorrowful, very shameful and very discouraging. It is not something that one will prayerfully desire, neither the position that one would want others to elect to the one into, it is not even a position or condition one may want be associated with. It is a bad condition of suffering, pains, hunger, rejection and bad condition of frequent regret and anger. The stories told below are real and reveal how greatly these people are suffering which demand our attention, love and proper caring. We begin the stories by citing the levels of their tears. Here are the bad treatments, sufferings and pains of these people in our society.
There was a childless widow of sixty eight years whose husband died when their marriage was thirty years old. This woman was living in the house built by her husband who had an upstairs, lands in villages and in urban cities. When this widow parked down to the village, her husband relations quickly demanded the particulars of the urban properties and seized all and finally took over the village lands and houses of her husband and pack all her domestic property out and push her away because she has no child. This woman who suffered thirty years with her husband to acquire these was poorly and shamefully discharged, dismissed and disgraced, because she has no child. This woman later became mad and roamed the street for over two years before she died.
Another story of an aged widow without a child was told that her husband was the eldest son among other three sons of their father but without any child. The man died at the age of forty –six, while his wife was forty years by then. The woman was living in the house of her husband, while she was by then at her fifty, the kinsmen of her husband gathered and planned to push her away that her presence is a great burden to the family. She was taken back to her ancient family home after been married for about thirty years. The sufferings, pains and hunger of this woman greatly increased she died for lack of food (malnutrition) with swollen body and swollen faces. What a great challenge to our generation? Shall we not do something to these widows to save their souls and spirits?
There were orphans of the same parents, three girls and one boy. Their parents died when they were at the ages of 13, 10, 8 and 6 respectively. These little children suffered great hunger, pains, sufferings and negligence. They ate only when they entered bush to pick snails, palm fruits and other vegetables for their foods. They all stopped at primary schools unless the one of thirteen years who stopped at JS2 till she got married to a palm wine tapper due to her low level of education. Nobody cared for them and none helped them, thus, Bishop Emmanuel El Foundation is fully out to help such classes of people.
There was an orphan in one community in Imo state who was begged by a woman of the same kindred to help her pluck coconut for her, this orphan agreed to climb up the coconut tree, but while the boy was on top of the tree, the woman started shouting on top of her voice – thief oh! Thief oh! Thief oh! While the villagers gathered and saw the boy on top of the coconut tree, while the women pretending as if she did not send him but persuaded the angry mob to stone the boy to death as a thief. Why the envy woman succeeded in killing this boy is simply because the boy has no parents and none to speak for him. What a painful death? Many orphans have been suffering in the hands of their relations, especially those whose parents had lands. What shall we do to save these orphans? I think this is the business of all godly people and the duty of all good spirited individuals in our society.
In one of the villages in Abia State, one woman and her family members were searching for their lost fowl, and finally the dead fowl was seen at the boundary between their house and the house of an orphan of sixteen years, they grouped themselves and agreed to accuse the orphan as the thief and as the person who killed and stole the fowl, the family of six brought the orphan by and tied the fowl on his neck and shouted thief oh! Thief oh! Thief! The villagers were attracted and saw the fowl at the neck of the boy and stoned him to death as a thief. What an evil treatments to orphans? Shouldn’t there be another helpful ways to bring the orphans to what God created them to be? I believe they were not born to die but born to live.
An orphan of ten years was handed over to a kinsman who had four children of 5, 7, 9 and 11 years of age respectively. This couple struggled to put their four children in the schools but subjected the orphan to the kitchen business, this orphan was with this family until he became fifteen years without attending any school unless primary three where he stopped before his father who died three years after the death of his mother. The orphan lost his mother when he was four and lost his father at the age of seven and at the age of fifteen when he should be in secondary school did not attend any school unless primary three, his last level when his father was alive. Why didn’t this orphan go to school or why is he not put in the school like others? It is simply because nobody cares hence he has no parents.
Presently, there are many excuses among our uneducated youths and some average adults who are illiterates without any formal education and without attending any public schools. What are those excuses and frequent complaints among these illiterates? These are what they often say.
“If my parents are alive, I would have been this or that”
“I am suffering today because the death of their parents”
“I not educated because I have nobody to train me”
“I did not go to school because of my parents death”
“I was brilliant but no person to train me”
“I was ready to go to school but no person to train me”
“My hardship was caused by my parents death”
Many statements like those and many more have been coming out of the mouths of the orphans who lost their parents at their early ages and who later became poor of victims of circumstances.
How shall we help these poor orphans or how shall we save others who maybe victims of circumstances tomorrow?
An abandoned child was adopted by a couple who only subjected the girl to a slavery services of washing toilets, floor, bathrooms, washing cloths and other domestic services without sending her to any school. Is this treatment good? The children of the couple were sent to the schools but the abandoned child was made to be a maid and servant in the house without attending to any school. How shall we rescue these neglected children whom God has not at any time neglected? Let’s do something.
How many of us are not seeing the children of mad women, the children of the destitute, the children of the irresponsible women and the children termed to be witches who roam our streets today? Are they not created by GOD? Are they created to die? How can these children be cared for, be trained, fed, clothed and be taken to schools? What should these children be if they are neglected, not cared for and rejected? Surely they shall be armed robbers, drunkards, thieves, fighters and criminals of the first order. This is the supreme purpose of the existence of Bishop Emmanuel El Foundation to care for such people and to give hope to the hopeless and to help the helpless in order to bring them to the seat which God originally planned for them.
THE STORIES OF THE ORPHANS AND REJECTED PEOPLE WHO BECAME GREAT IN BIBLE DAYS
The Bible is the word of God from where we see and know the will of God. The Bible emphasizes the poor, the rejected, the abandoned and the less privileged people who later became grate in their days and in their generations. Many prominent individuals or many Bible heroes were people who were in one way or the other were humiliated, rejected, despised or considered useless in their days. The influence and achievements of those who were considered less important in the Bible days, revealed that God created every person with great potential of success and potential to excel if the privileged ones shall help to develop the less privileged ones to become successful and useful. Everyone is potentially rich including the orphans and the less privileged ones or the abandoned children. We see the Bible heroes and all those whose names echoed greatly in the Bible suffering from one humiliation or the other before they became great and successful. Among these heroes who suffered and were humiliated before they became great are all these written or mentioned below.
- JOSEPH THE SON OF JACOB
Joseph was the eleventh son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham. He was the eleventh son out of the twelve sons of Jacob who was born by his beloved wife Rachael. Joseph was loved by his father Jacob but hated by his ten elder brothers. Joseph had a dream where the sun (father), the moon (his mother) and the stars (his brethren) bowed to him and honoured him as their leader and king.
This type of dream angered his brethren who planned to kill him, but later resolved to throw him into a well, from the dry well resolved to sale him to the Ishmaelite’s who sold him to the Egyptians into the house of Potiphar where he was subjected to slavery, under such condition was tempted with seductive power of the Potiphar’s wife, but in all these Joseph did not fail, but was falsely accused as a rapist who was innocently thrown into the prison to suffer for what he did not do. This is a great humiliation to serve prison term of what he did not do, thus, Joseph was rejected by his brothers, rejected by Potiphar’s family, rejected by Egyptian government and only qualified to remain in prison custody. When the appointed time has come, the issue of dream interpretation emerged and only Joseph was qualified to interpreted the dream which led to his greater promotion of the second citizen in Egypt. Joseph became the next to the Pharaoh (vice president) where both his brother and others came to bow before him and honoured him. He was a prominent leader in Egypt. Who knew that Joseph had such great potential to lead such great nation like Egypt?
- MOSES, THE ABANDONED CHILD
Moses was born in Egypt, when the Hebrew were living in Egypt in the days of Pharaoh, when the order was issued by Pharaoh to kill all make babies born by the Hebrews. This order of killing male babies of the Hebrews was carried out and all newly born babies in the camp of the Hebrews were killed, but he mother of Moses having a newly born Baby considered it very hard for her to surrender her baby for destruction, rather she resolved to dump the baby near the river where the Pharaoh’s daughter usually took her bath every morning, so the baby Moses was dumped, dropped and surrendered near the river where Pharaoh’s daughter usually took her bath every morning. The Pharaoh’s daughter, coming to the river saw the baby crying and had pity on him and picked him up, so that Moses was abandoned and also picked up by Pharaoh’s daughter who requested for a Hebrew mother to nurse the baby for her in the palace of Pharaoh her father. She named him Moses (taken out of the water). Moses grew up in the palace of Pharaoh the king of Egypt and studied all the knowledge and wisdom of Egypt and became great. Moses having known that He was not an Egyptian but a Hebrew, visited his brethren in process of making peace for them, was also rejected by his brother who asked him “who made you judge over us, do you want to kill me as you killed Egyptian last time? As a result of this challenge Moses left the city and ran away and became fugitive for forty years in a strange land, and became exile and from there, God met him and made him the leader, first prophet, the law giver, first administrator, the mouth piece of God and the Jewish mediator between them and God. The position of Moses in Israel history had not been re-occupied by any person till date. Moses was rejected by the Egyptians, dumped near the river, rejected by his brethren but later became their king. Had Moses been killed in Egypt, all the potentials and benefits of Moses would have been useless, great waste and all in vain. Our orphans have such today.
- JEPHTHAH THE REJECTED MAN
Jephthah was rejected by his brothers and the sons of his father and all members of his near kin claiming that was the son of a harlot who should not have any inheritance among the legitimate sons, neither should he live among the true sons of his father, but was rejected pushed out and denied his rights. He was humiliated, rejected and totally repudiated in all areas of human relationship, but when war broke in the out land the people needed a leader to lead the people to the victory and there was no qualified person in that position but he humiliated and rejected JEPHTHATH. There are great potentials of victory and success in the lives of the rejected and the abandoned people in our midst, lets help them become great. Thus, Jephthah became the leader, war lord and the savior of those that rejected him.
- DAVID THE REJECTED BUSH BOY
David was the younger son of Jesse, the son of Obed, the son Boaz, the son of Salmon, the son of Nahshon from the tribe of Judah. David the son of Jesse was rejected, despised and humiliated by Jesse his father, by his brothers and by Samuel the prophet on the day when Prophet Samuel came to the house of Jesse to anoint one of his sons as the next king of Israel. Neither Samuel, nor Jesse and neither other sons of Jesse believed that David would be that choice of God, but they all despised him and seeing him as nobody. In that battle with the Philistines, Ahab the elder brother of David despised him, abused him and rejected his ambition, king Saul called him a youth, Goliath saw him as foul and none regarded him, but all rejected and despised him, who later won and killed Goliath, became the king and lead Israelites to victory. He was reputed as the best king, as the greatest king and as the epitome of the coming Messiah who was also called the son of David. He was the writer of the major parts of the book of Psalms and known as the greatestsong writer of the Jews. The rejected and despised David, later became the honoured and mighty David and remains the greatest king ever lived.
- DISHONOURED JABEZ
Jabez was sorrowful, dishonoured and generally despised due to poverty and bad conditions. He discovered the root of his case and prayed to God to enlarge his coast and God granted him such petition and made him great and rich. Jabez before his prayers was despised, dishonoured, rejected and disregarded, but after the Lord visited him, he became great and respectful.
- OBEDEDOM, THE DESPISED CITIZEN
Obededom was the despised man in whose house, the ark of covenant was directed to be kept because a mere touching of the ark, a prominent citizen was killed and as result of the death of Uzzah who was killed by God because he touched the ark while the as stumbled. David was afraid to keep the ark near his dwelling and the dwelling places of other important citizens of the land. He rather directed that to be kept in the house of the poor obededom whose death he considered not important. Obededom was despised, disregarded, degraded and rejected whose death meant nothing to the king. While people thought of the death of obededom in whose house the killing ark was dwelling but God in his hand blessed Obededom, his farm, his family and all he has placed his hand upon. Obededom became very rich and prominent in the society as a result.
- DANIEL THE SLAVE THAT RULED THE LAND
Daniel was a prophet of God in the land of Babylon, a Hebrew origin who came to the land under captivity and was oppressed by the king of Babylon. He was thrown into the den of lions accused and totally humiliated by the king and was even promoted in the land of Babylon and was the next to the king of Babylon. His case was almost like that of Joseph who became the leader and the next to the king in strange land. The potential to become king is in the life of every abandoned and rejected person if such one can be guided and be helped to achieve such goals. God is watching and calling all that can help the poor to be prosperous.
- QUEEN ESTHER, THE ORPHAN
Esther was an Orphan who through the Babylonian captivity landed at the Persian as an orphan who was cared by her uncle called Mordecai an Israelite. Esther, unavoidably suffered by the pains, loneliness, bereavement and sorrows that often crowd the thoughts and feelings of the orphans. No one knew that Esther had the total potential to become the queen of the land when such need arose. Esther arose from the seat of orphan hood to the seat of the queen of the land of Persia. Why Esther did arose to such position? This is only because Esther was cared for and trained by an uncle who saw the need of making her useful.
- THE WOMAN OF ZAREPHATH
The woman of Zarephath was a widow who lived in the northern part of the Israel during the greatest famine in the land. She was classified among the poor and had no money to buy food and no hope of sustainable business while the severe hunger had engulfed her she had only small cake that can be eaten at once with her son and had no hope of survival, but death as their next step. She had written her name among the people in the mortuary and those in the grave. The presence of Elijah, the man of God in her house changed the whole situation that the small cake hoped to be taken before death was increased and became the source of good health and total sustenance to her and her son. This woman was living in abundance while others were dying in hunger and tortured by great famine. All these scriptural truth has made our organization the best.
